This webinar draws on select findings from IPEBLA’s Survey on Retirement Incomes, a comparative resource examining the laws and practices that govern how retirement assets are decumulated across defined contribution systems worldwide.

As retirement plan design and member engagement become more complex, legal professionals must navigate a wide range of decumulation requirements across jurisdictions. In this session, panelists from Australia, Belgium, Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States will share legal insights from their respective systems, providing a cross-border view of how different countries regulate the payout phase of retirement.

Topics will include:

  • Whether pensions are required by law as a form of benefit
  • Rules governing frequency, term, and commutation of payments
  • Tax treatment of pension distributions
  • Trustee responsibilities in helping members understand and choose pension options

This program is ideal for pension lawyers, trustees, regulators, and plan professionals seeking a comparative understanding of international retirement income systems. A recording will be made available for those unable to attend live.

Panelists: Joris Beernaert (Belgium), Philip Bennett (U.K.), Izzy Goldowitz (U.S.), Chantal Manson (South Africa), Paul Owens (Canada), Ruth Stringer (Australia), Moderated by Tony Roda (U.S.)
